Welfare and Guidance Services

Grievances:

The Academy has in place a fair and appropriate procedure for students who wish to report a grievance, in relation to any aspect of the Academy. Where complaints cannot be resolved using the Academies own process the complaint, including information of the attempted resolution will be forwarded to the Training Accreditation Council.

Appeals:

The Academy has in place a fair and appropriate procedure for students who wish to appeal a decision made on the assessment of learning outcomes. In the first instance the appeal should be made in writing and forwarded to the Senior Teacher or the Director, for review.

Refunds:

The Academy guarantees the refund of fees to students should it cancel or discontinue a course for any reason. Should a student withdraw from a course for legitimate reasons, a proportion of fees paid will be refunded after an initial interview with the Director.

Insurance:

The Academy has insurance cover necessary to carry out its business, including insurance for public liability, professional indemnity and building and contents.

Flexible Learning and Assessment:

The Academy offers self-paced study throughout each module. The time frame will be approximately one term per module or part thereof, to enable students to compile the evidence needed for assessment of a particular learning outcome. If a student has difficulties with the current means of assessment, listed in the Course Outline, the Academy will offer other forms of assessment after discussion with the student i.e. assessment through self-expression through art etc.

If there are any Language, Literacy or Numeracy considerations, the assessments will be altered to cater for these.

Access and Equity Policy

The Academy applies access and equity principles and provides timely and appropriate information, advice and support services in terms of learning materials and personal counselling / mentoring which assist students to identify and achieve their desired outcomes.

The Academy is committed to ensuring that it does not discriminate.

Staff Responsibilities for Access and Equity

All staff members are aware and adhere to the Access and Equity policy as set out in the Code of Practice for the Academy. If a student should need any clarification on any matter relating to the Academy, the student is asked to arrange an interview with the Senior Teacher or Director.

Recognition of Prior Learning

The Academy has an RPL Policy and Procedure should a student wish to apply for recognition on the basis of life experience, they can obtain an application from the Director or Senior Teacher.

Support, will be provided by the Director on the type of evidence to be produced.

Risk Management Policy

The Academy has a risk management procedure in place. This procedure consists of a document stating what the risk is, the action that needs to be undertaken and the person responsible for the action and the date the action was completed. This document shall be updated under the Version Control procedure each time an action is completed. This Policy and Procedure will be an ongoing procedure for the Academy and will include any risks thought applicable by either staff or students that are brought to the Academies attention.

Occupational Safety and Health

The Academy abides by the OS & H Regulations of 1996 that are relevant to this workplace and also Sections 21 & 22 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1984. The relevant issues shall be explained to new students prior to commencement of training.

If a student wishes to view these regulations, they may seek a copy for their perusal from the trainer.

Disciplinary Policy

The Academy has a strictly “NO SMOKING” policy for the entire grounds of the Academy. Any student found to have disregarded this policy will in the first instance be interviewed by the Director.
